JANUARY 8, 2003, HARTFORD, CT - Journey to one of the most beautiful and mysterious places on earth with Dale Johnson's Grand Canyon, which is being presented at The Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts' Belding Theater on January 26, 2003 at 2 p.m. as part of the William H. Mortensen Travel Series. Tickets are $6.50-$7.50 and are available at The Bushnell Box Office, located at 166 Capitol Avenue in Hartford, or by calling (860) 987-5900. You will learn the history of the Grand Canyon, from the ancient ruins of the Anasasi tribe to Major Powell's 1869 expedition down the Colorado River. Marvel at the beauty of the canyon during a sunrise, under a full moon, and during a rainstorm. Enjoy the cougars, desert tortoise, mule deer and chipmunks who call the Grand Canyon home.

Join wranglers as they saddle mules for an arduous descent into the inner canyon. Watch a lone hiker explore a trail that has been used for thousands of years by ancient tribes. See the ghost images of the Anasasi Indians as they appeared years ago storing their crops and carrying water from the cliff-side spring. Take a thrilling white water ride along the Colorado River. In between paddles, take a look around at the sheer cliffs and notice the hidden spots that are beckoning to be explored.

After finishing a stint in the Army Security Agency, Dale Johnson traveled throughout Central America, living for a time with the Choco Indians in the jungles of lower Panama. He did his first filming on that trip. When he returned to the United States, he enrolled at the University of Texas. While studying there, he began working in the commercial film business in Dallas where he filmed hundreds of commercials, documentaries, and two theatrical features. Since then, he has worked on television specials for CBS and ABC, filmed the outdoor television series, "The Lone Star Sportsman," and worked on films for NASA for five years. He formed Trailwood Films after moving to Alaska, where he produced television commercials and sponsored films and documentaries.
