Celebrate the International Day of Peace with The Bushnell
Tuesday, September 29, 2009 – preshow at 7:00 p.m., performance at 7:30 p.m.
Hartford, CT – September 10, 2009 – The Bushnell will celebrate the International Day of Peace on Tuesday, September 29, 2009 with guest speakers Rabbi Donna Berman and author Ron Winter preceeding the previously announced Robinson & Cole Family Series performance of Letters Home. The preshow speakers will take the stage at 7:00 p.m., followed immediately by the performance of Letters Home at 7:30 p.m. in The Bushnell’s Belding Theater.
The event on September 29 is intended to be a non-political, non-religious celebration of human affiliation in honor of the United Nations’ International Day of Peace – marked every year on September 21 – which highlights global efforts to end conflict and promote peace. Rabbi Berman, Executive Director of the Charter Oak Cultural Center, is slated to discuss the topics of peace and diversity during the preshow. Mr. Winter, a decorated veteran, is the author of Masters of the Art: A Fighting Marine’s Memoir of Vietnam and a fierce advocate of veterans’ rights.
The following performance of Letters Home is based on letters from nine actual soldiers currently fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan. The play seeks to define patriotism and what it means to serve our country today, through acts of bravery, compassion, social responsibility, sense of community and humanity. This show is appropriate for teens 14 and up.
Tickets for Letters Home, which include admission to the preshow lecture, are on sale now and can be purchased by visiting The Bushnell Box Office in person, by phone at 860-987-5900, or online at www.bushnell.org. Tickets start at $20.00.
